Will you give The Lord a chance today?

The gospel today has been translated and manipulated to conform to our lifestyle instead of us changing the way we live to please God. God promises to rescue us as he did with the children of Israel (COI) but it is our responsibility to remain faithful to him and believe in his word. We begin this process by receiving salvation through Jesus Christ and repenting of our sins. Let us take a look at salvation, backsliding and what it means to repent.

Salvation is deliverance from danger or death. It’s deliverance from all that separates people from God (Women of Faith Study Bible [WOFSB], NIV, 2001). According to the NLT Bible, salvation is deliverance from the power and effects of sin, danger or difficulty by God’s intervention (2nd Ed.).

Backsliding is to turn or move away from a relationship with God (WOFSB, 2001). To repent is to turn away from sin and change ones heart and behavior; to feel regret and contrition (NLT, 2nd Ed.). While repentance is a conscious change of mind, it is the willingness to acknowledge your sin or disobedience. God will always rescue us, deliver us or save us because he is a faithful even in our weakness or faithlessness. He is kind and compassionate. However, when we backslide without repentance we become like the COI that he destroyed because they did not remain faithful (Jude 1_5). God is not like man that holds grudges or harbor unforgiveness in his heart. In Jeremiah 3_12-13 the Lord said “…O Israel, my faithless people, come home to me again, for I am merciful. I will not be angry with you forever. Only acknowledge your guilt. Admit that you rebelled against the Lord your God…”. All we need to do is repent. He promises us in verse 15 that he will give us shepherds after his own heart who will guide us with knowledge and understanding. God’s words are true. He wants to love us, and to heal us of our backsliding ways. Give him a chance today to deliver you from every power that holds you captive. From everything that oppresses you, that causes pain or hurt, from all the heavy burdens you carry daily. God promises to give us rest. Give him a chance today to enter into your hearts that you may eternal life. Be encouraged, be inspired and be blessed!
